KMTC courses and qualifications requirements

Are you looking forward to pursuing a course in the medical field and related areas? KMTC is a reputable government institution that is mandated to train medical courses from craft certificates, diplomas, and higher diplomas. Other institutions both universities and private colleges can also train these courses.

As you select a college and the course please ensure the institute is registered by the respective medical regulation body as a training center.

In Kenya medical courses are very competitive course and many students want to pursue them. They are also relatively expensive compared to other diploma and certificate courses.

The courses are categorized as preservice and in-service. Preservice courses are those that can be pursued by those fresh from high school or someone who has no experience in the medical field. In-service courses are for those already in the service and wish to upgrade. It can be either a high diploma or an upgrade from a certificate to a diploma course.

KMTC course entry requirements

Generally in Kenya for a diploma course you are required to have a mean grade of C- and for certificate D. However, due to the competitive nature of medical courses KMTC entry requirements are higher.

For a diploma course, you require a mean grade of C in KSCE. In addition to that, you will also require subject combinations that have biology/biological science, chemistry, and physical science as cluster requirements.

To join KMTC to pursue a Certificate course, you must have a minimum of C- with specific qualifications in cluster subjects and biology/biological science, chemistry, and physical sciences.

For those who wish to upgrade to a higher diploma, they are required to have passed the respective diploma and for a diploma to have a relevant certificate.

Course duration

A diploma course takes 3 years which involves classwork and the field while the craft certificate takes 2 years. For a higher diploma, it takes 2 years in which 6 months are for mentorship attachment.
